Roaming Yogi Adventures' Guide to Living Fearlessly

A couple of months ago, right after we got back from Peru, I was driving and saw a sticker on the back of a car that said "live a great story". I was still on cloud 9 from almost 3 weeks of exploring the mountains and sacred valley of Peru so that this really spoke to me. My wheels immediately started turning and I got to thinking...exactly how does one go about living their best story? And who doesn't want to live a great story? Who doesn't want to live their best story? I sure as hell do (that's what made me co-found Roaming Yogi after all).

So, how exactly do we go about living our best story? To me, if really comes down to one thing: living FEARLESSLY.

Now, I'm not claiming that I am completely fearless. I'm pretty sure that almost no one is. But, to be a roaming yogi you have to practice being fearless. We want to see the world and experience the most beautiful creations that Mother Nature has to offer. And to do this, you often times find yourself in not the most comfortable of settings. From turbulent plane rides, to achy knees from hours of hiking, to not knowing the language of the country you are in, things can get painful and scary. But it is these uncomfortable experiences that we think makes life worth living. Because on the way to each destination is laughter, happy tears, sad tears, awe, and beauty. So much beauty.

Here we share with you a piece of our hearts- Roaming Yogi Adventures' Guide to Living Fearlessly! I recommend getting your journal and a pen out for this one. :)

Step one: Realize what you want your story to be

1. What does my story look like currently?

Take a long, hard look in the mirror and put it all out there. The good, the bad, the ugly. What does your story honestly look like right now? Take a moment and write it in your journal. Put it down on paper so that when you are killing it with living your best life, you can look back and see how far you've come.

2. What do I want my story to look like? What do I want it to be?

What kind of person do you want to be? What do you want to represent with your story? Where do you want to go and what/who do you want to see? Imagine being an old lady or old man sitting in your rocking chair. When you look back, what would you regret not doing? Well, you better put that down on your to-do list! Write down what you want your story to be. This may change over time, but thats ok, this is just the beginning.

3. What changes do I need to make and what fears do I need to let go of to turn my current story into the one that I want it to be?

Now that you know what your story looks like and what you want it to become, write down the changes you need to make to get there. Number them one by one. This list may or may not look daunting. If it does, don't stress. Just pick one at a time to work on. We like to set monthly goals as it is a great way to to cross these changes off your list. They say it takes 3 weeks to instill or let go of a habit. Give it a go!

Step two: Confront what makes you uncomfortable and regularly seek out the things that challenge you

The only thing stopping you from living your most authentic story is fear. Whether it's fear of failure, fear of losing someone or something, fear of massive spiders in the jungle, etc. It's time to let that shit go! Face it head on. Look it in the eye and prove to yourself that you can conquer it.

It's time to live FEARLESSLY. When we let go of fear, we allow our hearts to open. Once our hearts can open, we are open to love, new experiences, joy, laughter, adventure, and truly being present in this gift of life.

Step three: Trust your journey

Along the way of living fearlessly, you are bound to have failures and you are bound to be judged by others. Maybe you'll lose a relationship or a job will end and everything will seem terrifying. Trust in your journey. Trust that those people, jobs, and things came in to your life and left for a reason. They taught you what they needed to and then it was time to part ways. Every single experience is a lesson. Whether these lessons feel positive or negative, they are there to better us and to make us stronger. With each so called failure comes a massive amount of strength. Every time you let go of something, have faith that something even better is on its way to you.

"We don't grow when things are easy, we grow when we face challenges."

Allow your intuition to guide you. Never, ever doubt it. Deep down, you know exactly what you need to do to live fearlessly and have the life of your dreams.

P.S. That bumper sticker ended up being from a company called Live A Great Story. Their site is truly inspirational, featuring stories from people that come from all walked of life. We definitely recommend checking it out. :)
